Additionally, students that earn the Power Machine Threading certification will understand and be able to demonstrate the safe and proper use of manual and powered roll grooving equipment to make fluid-tight connections as used in fire protection and other HVAC applications through the completion of hands-on lab activities in the classroom.

    Power Machine Threading

    Description

    Objective:

    Students that earn the Advanced Power Threading certification will understand and be able to demonstrate the safe operation of stand mounted power threading equipment to fabricate threaded connections in plumbing pipe and electrical conduit through the completion of hands-on lab activities in the classroom. Additionally, students that earn the Power Machine Threading certification will understand and be able to demonstrate the safe and proper use of manual and powered roll grooving equipment to make fluid-tight connections as used in fire protection and other HVAC applications through the completion of hands-on lab activities in the classroom.

    Competencies

    • Demonstrate the safe, proper use and maintenance of stand mounted power threaders used in the construction trades for cutting, reaming, and threading of plumbing pipe and electrical conduit.
    • Explain the operation of a hammer style chuck and integrated oiling system as it pertains to the threading process.
    • Evaluate the student’s ability to safely use the stand mounted power threader to cut, ream and thread steel pipe and/or conduit including the fabrication of nipple connections using lab activities.
    • Introduce the types and sizes of pipe and the applications that are suitable for roll grooving to mechanically join pipes together in fire protection and other HVAC fluid circuits.
    • Explain the purpose and means by which the components of a roll grooved connection provide fluid-tight connections.
    • Demonstrate the safe and proper operation of professional manual and powered roll grooving equipment that is used by professional pipefitters, plumbers, and HVAC technicians.
